Traditional shikibutons are made from layers of wool and cotton, surrounded by a cotton twill fabric case. They are made for use on the floor with a coconut coir bed rug, a tatami mat, or on a slatted bed frame and are designed to be rolled up and stored away when not in use. The breathable and lightweight fibres allow for a deeper night's sleep as the wool repels moisture and regulates heat.

Care Instructions
Before folding up for storage, give your Shikibuton a few quick shakes. A few times a year, refresh your Shikibuton with fresh air and sunshine; it can easily be draped over a porch or deck railing. If keeping your Shikibuton in use for an extended period of time, alternately flip (turning it over) and rotate (head to foot) weekly for the first few months and monthly thereafter, for even wear. Spot clean only.
The Shikibuton is designed to rest on a breathable surface. We recommend placing it atop a slatted bed frame or, if placed on the floor, anorganic coconut coir bed rug. We offer a variety of beautifulbed framesthat pair perfectly with this mattress. Make sure your mattress has what it needs for proper support.

Great customer service - Organic Wool/Cotton Shikibuton Mattress
I bought my mattress online without trying it...and I am very happy with it. I am having excellent sleeps!
They were also excellent in scheduling the delivery, and keeping me updated to work with my schedule, and super friendly on top of everything else.
This is a firmer mattress- which I personally like. I also bought the coconut coir to put underneath the mattress - this has a bit of a strong scent (but it has dissipated a bit which is good - I think most people it wouldn't bother - I have a very strong sense of smell.
Overall, very happy with my experience!
I am so extremely happy with my Shikibuton! The product is lovely and the people who helped me select it were so wonderful. I honestly can’t say enough about Resthouse customer service, it definitely deserves more than 5 Thank you all!!!
I used to have a hand made futon for about 20 years, then life intervened. I got another mattress but, needless to say not very satisfactory. I wanted to go back to a futon, and by chance found what I wanted (a long search). I can't say enough about being able to once again sleep through the night to awake the next morning not only refreshed but ALIVE.
We purchased an "Organic Wool/Cotton Shikibuton Mattress" from Resthouse a little while ago and we loved the mattress so much that we got another one...
