Custom Comfort, Made Simple
How to Adjust Your Pillow

1. Open and Prepare
Unzip the inner casing to access the fill. Use the provided bag to collect and store any excess.

2. Adjust the Fill
Remove small amounts of fill until you reach your preferred loft and softness. Pour slowly, using a bin or basket to help control the flow.

3. Shape, Sleep, Refine
Fluff and shape your pillow, then lie down in your usual sleep position. Give it a few nights and adjust as needed for the best comfort.
*Wool can arrive compacted. Gently pull it apart and take extra care when shaping.
Finding Your Ideal Loft
Perfecting Your Head Pillow
The amount of fill in your pillow, also known as loft, plays a crucial role in keeping your spine aligned and your body supported throughout the night.
Every sleep position places different demands on your neck and shoulders, so we’ve outlined general guidelines to help you find your ideal loft. But remember, these are just starting points — your comfort is the ultimate guide.
Side Sleepers
Aim for a slightly higher loft.
Your pillow should fill the space between your head and the mattress, keeping your neck aligned with your spine.
Try This: Side sleepers generally remove at least 20% of their fill. Start with more fill and remove small amounts until your head feels level. Not tilted up or down.
Tip: If your shoulder sinks deeply into your mattress, you may need a bit more fill for proper support.
Back Sleepers
Aim for a moderate loft.
Your pillow should support the natural curve of your neck without pushing your head forward.
Try this: Back sleepers generally remove at least 30% of their fill. Adjust the fill so that your head rests neutrally. Not too elevated, not too flat.
Tip: A slight tuck of extra fill under the neck can offer gentle cervical support.
Stomach Sleepers
Aim for a low loft.
This helps reduce neck strain by preventing overextension.
Try this: Stomach sleepers generally remove at least 40% of their fill. Remove most of the fill and test it. You should be able to turn your head comfortably from side to side without feeling tension in your neck.
Tip: Some stomach sleepers find it helpful to sleep with their head off the pillow and use it instead to support their chest or side body.
Combination Sleepers
Aim for a balanced loft.
You want a pillow that adapts easily as you shift between positions.
Try this: Start with a medium loft and adjust as needed based on which position you tend to wake up in.
Tip: Consider shaping the pillow nightly to match how you’re sleeping that night.
Enhancing Full-Body Comfort
Personalizing Your Body Pillow
Your body pillow is designed to support your entire frame; helping align your spine, reduce pressure points, and prevent twisting during sleep. Whether you're supporting your hips, relieving back tension, or seeking a more grounded rest, its adjustable fill and versatile shape let you tailor it to your unique needs.
Body Type and Alignment Basics
Everyone’s body is different, and alignment needs can vary based on your height, weight distribution, and sleep style.
Broader frames benefit from a fuller, firmer fill to maintain support across the shoulders and hips.
Petite frames may prefer a softer fill to avoid over-elevation and maintain a natural curve.
Tall individuals may want to ensure the pillow supports from shoulder to knee for full-body alignment.
Start with your usual sleep position, then adjust the loft to support your spine, relieve pressure, and prevent your upper shoulder from collapsing inward; a common source of nighttime misalignment.
Side Sleeping Support
The body pillow offers full-body alignment for side sleepers, helping reduce pressure on the hips, lower back, and shoulders. Supporting your knees, hips, and upper arm helps keep the spine in a neutral position and prevents the upper shoulder from collapsing inward.
Try This: Place the pillow along the front of your body, hugging it lightly with your arms and placing your knees on top to stay aligned throughout the night.
Tip: Broader frames may benefit from a fuller loft to better support the shoulders and hips.
Upper Body Comfort & Shoulder Alignment
The body pillow also works beautifully as a relaxation aid; perfect for reading, lounging, or winding down at night.
Try This: Shape the pillow to support your arms and chest while lying on your side or reclining.
Tip: If using it in an upright position, slightly reduce the fill to make it more moldable.
Hip & Lower Back Relief
For those experiencing lower back, hip, or SI joint discomfort, the body pillow can help by stabilizing the pelvis and keeping the spine aligned.
Try This: Sleep with the pillow between your knees and lightly hug it with your arms to promote balanced alignment.
Tip: Ensure your top leg isn’t pulling your hips into a twist. Adjust the fill to help keep your hips stacked and your spine neutral.
Pregnancy Support
During pregnancy, the Kakun body pillow can offer relief by supporting your belly, easing hip pressure, and improving side sleeping comfort.
Try This: Use the pillow to cradle your bump and knees, or place it along your back to help prevent rolling while you sleep.
Tip: A slightly softer loft may feel more comfortable as your body becomes more sensitive and changes throughout pregnancy.
A Little Goes a Long Way
What to Do with Your Excess Fill
One of the beautiful things about our customizable Kakun pillows is that they often leave you with enough extra fill to create a second head pillow or a smaller travel pillow.
With an additional inner and outer casing, it’s easy to repurpose what you already have. It’s a simple, sustainable way to extend your comfort and get even more out of your pillow and its materials.

Pillow Care
To keep your Kakun pillow feeling fresh and lasting for years to come, a little care goes a long way.
General Care
We highly recommend routinely airing out your Kakun bed and body pillows on a bright and breezy day; allowing the fresh air and sun's rays to naturally clean, sanitize, refresh and revive.
How to Clean
- Only wash the outer protective cover
- Machine wash cold with mild detergent
- Tumble dry on low or hang dry
- Keep the inner fill dry to maintain loft and shape
Fluffing & Maintenance
The wool fill may becomes compacted over time. We suggest gently pulling it apart and reshaping every so often to main loft and softness.
Storage Tip
If you plan to store your pillow or extra fill, keep it in a cool, dry place.
