Traditional Folding Mattress

This is a 4" traditional shikibuton, not a regular mattress. The fibres are soft, and settle to be firm and dense with use. Please ensure you are familiar with this style of sleeping.

Shikibutons are made from layers of wool and cotton, surrounded by a cotton twill fabric case. They are made for use on the floor or a slatted frame with a coconut coir bed rug or tatami mat. The breathable and lightweight fibres allow for a deeper night's sleep, as the wool repels moisture and regulates heat.

Care Guide

Spot clean only. Air out seasonally, placing it in the sunlight. If intended as a primary mattress, flip and rotate weekly for the first few months and monthly thereafter, for even wear.

The Shikibuton is designed to rest on a breathable surface and we always recommend a coconut coir bed rug underneath. Make sure your mattress has what it needs for proper support whether on a slatted frame or the floor.
