Mattresses are often placed in enclosed spaces, on floors or on frames with poor air circulation. My first experience with this was when my mattress was placed inside of an old waterbed frame. Mold began embedding itself into the materials and once that happened, it wasn't long before a new mattress was needed. What is Coir?
Coir is the fibrous material found between the hard, internal shell and the outer coat of a coconut. It is one of the thickest and most moisture-resistant commercial natural fibres out there. It is most commonly used in products such as mattresses, floor mats, doormats, and brushes. Resthouse Coir is designed to be placed under your latex mattress and on top of your frame, to provide breathability to your sleep system.

About the Organic Coconut Coir Bed Rug by Resthouse:
Our bed rug is a one-inch thick mat made of coconut fibre and organic latex and is used to improve airflow. It is imperative to ensure proper air circulation under any latex mattress that is placed on a solid platform bed frame or floor. On a slatted platform with restricted airflow, coir may also be advisable. In exceptionally high humid environments, we go so far as to recommend adding two coir layers under the mattress for sufficient airflow.
